The Sky Quartet was formed in 2013 and reunites Chatham old boys Chris Young and Elliot Galvin. The quartet perform through composed original music written predominantly by saxophonist Chris Young. Chris and Elliot are accompanied by 2 of Birmingham’s most in demand rhythm section players; Stu Barker on double bass and Euan Palmer on drums. The group are fast becoming some of the UK’s most talked about jazz performers.
Chris Young is an alto sax player and composer based in Birmingham. Chris graduated with a first class honours degree from the Birmingham conservatoire and now performs regularly around the UK . A prolific sideman involved with various projects including Dave Greys Hansu Tori, Dunnet/Baxter big band, James Banners ‘Jamboree’, YBY trio , Ben Lee Quartet, drumless trio Tumbleweed, hip hop/ d+b band Antelope, Chris also writes and performs original material with his own sextet and chordless octet.
Elliot Galvin is a Jazz pianist, composer. He graduated from Trinity Laban in 2013 winning the prestigious Gold Medal award and was also named that years Yamaha Jazz scholar as well as being awarded the Worshipful Company of Musician’s Silver medal award. In 2014 he was named the European Young Jazz Musician of The Year. He is a co-founder of the Chaos Collective, with whom he won the Musician’s Benevolent Fund’s development award in 2012, which he won a second time with his trio in 2014. he is a prolific side-man being featured on the highly acclaimed debut album by Laura Jurd and in the Chaos Orchestra, London Soundpainting Orchestra and many other notable ensembles. His debut album Dreamland is available on the Chaos Collective label.
