“Dinner and a movie?” the age old question many a gentleman has used to initiate a date and although the traditional date is great, we think there are some other activities you may find enjoyable as well. Here are the top 10 things to do in Birmingham, before or after dinner;
1. See an amazing live performance at the Barclaycard arena
Formerly known as the National Indoor Arena (NIA), the Barclaycard arena frequently has a wide range of brilliant live performances for you to enjoy. They have concerts from famous composers such as; Hans Zimmer and spellbinding magicians like Dynamo. Whatever your personal preference, the Barclaycard arena has you covered, and within walking distance of Broad Street it’s a great place to go before or after dinner.
2. Watch a movie in style at The Electric, Birmingham
Dinner and a movie never sounded this luxurious. The Electric is the UK’s oldest working cinema and has an intimate feel to it, comfortable seats and a waiter service to deliver you ice cold beer, wine or even champagne. They also have an interactive 360° tour on their website for you browse, needless to say it makes a perfect place for a nightcap after dinner.
3. Visit the National Sea Life Centre
There’s a preconception held by many that the national sea life centre is just for kids. However, it can be a beautiful place to browse hand in hand with your significant other. Dimmed rooms with a subtle blue hue and a hushed atmosphere, at the right time it can make a nice romantic destination. Although, it’s pretty busy on weekends, so this is better as a weekday date.
4. Laugh your socks off at Birmingham’s Glee club
Birmingham’s Glee club has comedy evenings every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Not much can go wrong on a date that involves laughing until your stomach hurts, spirits will be high and great memories will be made. A brilliant way to end the night after a lovely dinner.
5. Explore your inner child at Birmingham’s Thinktank Science Museum
I, myself have been on a date at a science park, and although it may seem unconventional it can be a lot of fun. Sometimes it’s nice to visit, explore, get in touch with your curious side and who better to do that with than the person you love most. Never be ashamed to embrace your inner child, it can be great stress relief.
6. A magical evening at Symphony Hall
From the brilliant Katie Melua to the awesome John Wilson Orchestra, the Symphony Hall in Birmingham is a spectacular place to visit before or after dinner. Another venue that caters to many different musical tastes, definitely worth a visit and located on Broad Street, it’s walking distance from our restaurant.
7. Get in touch with your musical side at the Hippodrome
With classic musicals like Cats and the Sound of Music, Birmingham’s Hippodrome Theatre is one of the most popular date destinations, so it’s no wonder it’s on our list of Top 10 things to do in Birmingham before or after dinner. But, If musicals aren’t your thing, Opera is also on offer as well as comedy, pantomime and much more. Definitely a great place to visit after dinner.
8. Revive your inner artist with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists
The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) encourages people to embrace their inner artist. They hold regular exhibitions with different themes, from sculpture to jewellery crafting. It’s a fun, hands on and educational date destination that you’re sure to enjoy with your significant other.
9. Take a walk around Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens
What’s more romantic than a walk around stunning gardens with the one you love. The Botanical Gardens are a great place to spend the afternoon, browsing and soaking up the environment. It’s also the perfect place to work up an appetite before dinner.
10. Travel to the past at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter
Almost like a time capsule, the museum of the Jewellery Quarter is a great place to visit on a date. with guided tours and jewellery making demonstrations available, it’s truly an exciting place to be. But be warned bachelors, talks of rings may arise after such a visit!
